General information

Application
  • All-in-one control devices for VAV terminal units
  • Dynamic differential pressure transducer, electronic controller, and actuator are combined in one casing
  • Different control tasks through corresponding setpoint specification
  • Room temperature controllers, central building management systems, air quality controllers and others control the variable volume flow control by specifying setpoints via the communication interface
  • Suitable for room control from TROX Oₓ with Field Application Modules, e.g. FAM-E, FAM-W
  • Simple connection thanks to common connection for supply voltage and communication via double RJ45 socket (daisy-chain wiring possible)
  • Up to four volume flow controllers can be connected in series via daisy-chain wiring
  • Override control for activating qvmin, qvmax, shut-off, Open position via Modbus register, BACnet objects or TROX Oₓ possible
  • The actual volume flow rate is available as a network data point
  • The damper blade position is available as a network data point
  • Standard filtration in comfort air conditioning systems allows the controller to be used in the supply air without additional dust protection measures
With heavy dust levels in the room
  • Install suitable extract air filters upstream, as a partial volume flow is routed through the transducer for volume flow measurement
If the air is contaminated by dust, lint, or sticky particles
  • Use a control component with static differential pressure transducer, e.g. BUSN

Control strategy
  • The volume flow controller works independently of duct pressure
  • Pressure fluctuations do not cause any permanent volume flow deviations
  • A dead zone (hysteresis), within which the damper blade is not moved, ensures stable regulation
  • The volume flow range for the controller is factory-set (qvmin: minimum volume flow rate, qvmax: maximum volume flow rate)
  • Operating parameters are defined in the order code and factory-set

Air volume flow controllers are characterised by a closed-loop control system for the regulation of air volume flow, comprising measurement, comparison and actuation.
The volume flow is obtained by measuring a differential pressure.
This is done via a differential pressure sensor. The integrated differential pressure transducer converts the differential pressure into a voltage signal. The actual volume flow rate is available as a voltage signal. Due to factory settings, 10 V DC always corresponds to the nominal volume flow (qvnom).
The volume flow setpoint is specified by a higher-level controller (e.g. room temperature controller, air quality controller, building management system). Variable volume flow control can be set between qvmin and qvmax. It is possible to override the room temperature control by override control, e.g. via a shut-off.
The controller compares the volume flow setpoint to the current actual value and controls the actuator according to the system deviation.
